Orlando Johnson (Seaside, Calif./Loyola Marymount) averaged 23.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in a pair of UC Santa Barbara wins to claim his second Big West Men’s Basketball Player of the Week honor this season.

Johnson recorded his fifth double-double of the season with 25 points and 10 rebounds as the Gauchos defeated UC Irvine, 85-62, on Wednesday.  The 6-4 guard made 9 of 11 floor shots, including both three-point attempts, and added four assists in the win.

The senior was instrumental in UCSB’s 72-64 victory at Utah State as part of Saturday’s SEARS BracketBusters event.  Johnson finished with 22 points, five rebounds and three steals as the Gauchos handed the Aggies just their sixth loss in the last 101 home games.  Although he was just 4 of 9 from the free throw line, Johnson compensated with 7 of 12 shooting from the field and knocked down four three-pointers.

The 47 points he scored for the week put Johnson at 1,674 for his career, which pulled him to within 23 points of setting a new UC Santa Barbara career scoring record.

Counting his freshman season at Loyola Marymount, Johnson has now scored 2,057 career points as a collegiate player.

Others nominated:
Isiah Umipig (Cal State Fullerton); Josh Greene (Cal State Northridge); T.J. Robinson (Long Beach State); Harrison DuPont (UC Davis)
