Cal Poly junior Andre Dome helped his team to a win over a ranked opponent and UC Davis sophomore Megan Heneghan came within three points of upsetting the nation's top-ranked singles player, earning the two Big West Men's and Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week recognition, respectively.
Dome Dominates At No. 1 Singles Position
Andre Dome (Arroyo Grande, Calif./Arroyo Grande HS) led Cal Poly to a win over a ranked opponent and was a perfect 4-0 in singles and doubles matches to secure Big West Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week accolades.
Dome breezed past Arizona’s Giacomo Miccini by a 6-1, 6-1 score as the Mustangs rolled to a 6-1 team win against the 56th-ranked Wildcats. He teamed with Marco Comuzzo at No. 2 doubles to pick up an 8-6 victory against the Wildcat tandem. It was Cal Poly’s first win in eight tries against Arizona.
In a 6-1 win over Grand Canyon, Dome earned a 6-3, 6-4 win against Frederic Schoelzel and also triumphed in doubles.

Heneghan Wins Twice In Singles, Nearly Upsets Top-Ranked Opponent
UC Davis sophomore Megan Heneghan (Tustin, Calif./Beckman HS) won a pair of singles matches and nearly took out the nation’s No. 1 player for a third victory, cementing Big West Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week honors.
Heneghan went toe-to-toe with Stanford’s Mallory Burdette and was three points away from dealing the top-ranked star defeat. With the team match already decided, Heneghan led in the third-set tiebreaker, 7-6, before Burdette came back to seal a 6-7 (6), 6-2, 1-0 (8) win.
In her other two singles contests, Heneghan was dominant. She steamrolled San Francisco’s Julia Wartenburger by a 6-3, 6-3 score and wrapped up her second win at the No. 2 position, downing Fresno State’s Olga Kirpicheva, 7-5, 6-2. Heneghan and partner Kelly Chui also recorded wins at No. 1 doubles against their San Francisco and Fresno State counterparts.
