Irvine, Calif. - Santa Maria native, Kristina Santiago grabs her third Big West Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honor this season leading the Mustangs to a set of victories at home last week to break the three-game slump for the Mustangs.  This is Santiago’s eighth career Player of the Week recognition ranking her sixth in all-time conference Player of the Week honors.

The senior forward led the Mustangs with her tenth double-double in the victory over Pacific last week posting the game-high 25 points with 14 rebounds.  Of the 25 on the night, 19 points and 11 rebounds were released in the second half as the Tigers pushed to come back from a 40-32 score in the first half to only be out scored by 2 in the second half for the Cal Poly 74-64 win.

Santiago finished play last week seeing only 21 minutes against UC Davis in the Mustangs second home victory of the week.  She had 17 points going six of eight from the floor and 5-5 in free throws as Cal Poly advances to a three-way tie for second in Big West Conference standings (8-12, 5-3 Big West).

Santiago is currently fifth in the nation in scoring (23.3 ppg), 23rd in rebounding (10.2) and 10th in field goal percentage (56.1).

Others nominated: Tre’Shonti Nottingham (UC Riverside), Jasmine Erving (Long Beach State), Hannah Stephens (UC Davis)
