Junior guard Anete Klintsone guided UC Irvine to a pair of Big West victories last week, earning her Big West Women's Basketball Player of the Week accolades. This is UC Irvine's first honor of the 2011-12 season.
Klintsone opened the week with a career-high performance in the 77-75 overtime victory against the Pacific Tigers, draining 21 points with a 9-for-15 performance from the field and a 1-for-2 effort from the free throw line. The Latvia, Riga, native scored 15 of her points in the second half, going 6-for-8 from the field, including 2-for-3 from three-point range. She also added five rebounds and four assists to her total.
Two days later in UC Irvine's 60-54 win over UC Davis, Klintsone posted a career-best eight rebounds to go along with 16 points. She also picked up three assists and two steals in the process. The Anteater win was the first time UC Irvine defeated UC Davis since Jan. 4, 2006, and just their second overall win versus the Aggies.
For the week, Klintsone averaged 18.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals per contest, while shooting .536 from the field.
