Larry Anderson (Long Beach, Calif./Jordan HS) helped Long Beach State knock off its second top 15 opponent and reach the championship game of the Diamond Head Classic, earning the senior Big West Men’s Basketball Player of the Week accolades.

The 6-5 guard captured all-tournament team honors after averaging 15.0 points and 4.0 rebounds in the three games.  He also connected on 53.9% (14 of 26) of his field goal attempts and 60.0% (6 of 10) from three-point territory.

Anderson recorded 12 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals as the 49ers opened the Diamond Head Classic with a 68-58 victory against No. 14 Xavier.  It was another high profile win for LBSU after taking down No. 9 Pittsburgh on Nov. 16.

He followed that up with a team-high 16 points on 5 of 6 shooting, including 2 of 2 from three-point range, in Long Beach State’s 64-43 triumph against Auburn in the semifinals.

Anderson concluded the tourney with a team-high tying 17 points, four rebounds and four assists in a 77-60 loss to Kansas State in the championship game.  He hit three more three-pointers in the game to raise his season three-point percentage to 44.9% (22 of 49), third-best in the Big West.

Earlier in the week, Anderson posted 14 points and seven rebounds in the 49ers’ 76-54 win over Eastern New Mexico.
