David Hanson (Plymouth, Minn./Maranatha Christian Academy) helped Cal Poly achieve its best start in 10 seasons and reached a personal milestone as well, earning the senior Big West Men’s Basketball Player of the Week accolades.

The Mustangs received double-digit scoring contributions from Hanson in victories against Menlo College (91-58) and Fresno State (65-46), staking them to an 8-3 record.  That keeps pace with the 2001-02 Mustang squad for best start in Division I program history.  The 2001-02 team won nine of its first 12 games.

Hanson scored a combined 28 points against Menlo College and Fresno State to hit the 1,000 point career mark on the button.  He became the 17th player in school history to achieve the feat.

His 12 points against the Bulldogs helped lead the Mustangs to their first against that foe in 41 years.  He made 5 of 8 shots from the field while adding five rebounds and three assists.

Against Menlo College, Hanson provided 16 points, six rebounds, one blocked shot and one steal while making 6 of 12 floor shots.

For the week, Hanson made 55.0% (11 of 20) of his field goal attempts and 42.9% (3 of 7) from three-point territory.

Others nominated:
Orane Chin (Cal State Fullerton);  Lorenzo McCloud (Pacific)
