For the second straight week a Pacific player earned the Big West Women's Basketball Player of the Week award. Following in the footsteps of teammate Erica McKenzie, junior guard Ashley Wakefield received this week's honor.
Wakefield turned in two double-doubles in a week that witnessed the Tigers going 1-1. In the 78-73 victory over SEC's University of Florida, she scored 10 points and 10 rebounds with five assists and three steals. On the glass, Wakefield grabbed three offensive boards against the Gators as part of her 10 rebounds.
Two days later against San Diego, Wakefield sprung for season-highs in points and rebounds with a 24-point, 13-rebound effort. The Santa Clarita, Calif, native shot 10-of-17 from the field for a .588 clip. She added one assist, steal and block to her total.
For the week, she fired a .520 field goal percentage while averaging 17.0 points and 11.5 rebounds per contest.
