Casper Ware led Long Beach State to one of the biggest wins in program history with a career-best effort, earning him Big West Men's Basketball Player of the Week accolades.
The senior amassed a career-high 28 points to lead the 49ers to an 86-76 victory at No. 9 Pittsburgh on Wednesday. The 49ers became just the second non-Big East team to ever win in the Petersen Events Center. Ware’s impressive performance included 10 of 18 shooting from the field, a perfect 4 of 4 at the line and six assists to only one turnover. He also knocked down four treys against the Panthers.
Ware returned to action on Saturday against San Diego State with another highlight reel effort. In the 77-73 overtime loss, he contributed 26 points, four rebounds and six assists. He knocked down all but one of his 12 free throw attempts in the game, including a pair of freebies with three seconds to play that pushed the game into overtime.
For the week, Ware shot 50.0 percent (17 of 34) from the floor and 93.8 percent (11 of 12) at the charity stripe. In addition, he has scored at least 20 points in all three LBSU contests this season.
