In just her second week of action since redshirting last season due to an injury, Cal Poly senior Kristina Santiago is already a force to be reckoned with this year as she recorded back-to-back career high performances to collect Big West Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors, for the week ending Nov. 20. This is the second straight week Cal Poly has claimed the weekly honor with Jonae Ervin picking up the seasons first award.
In leading the Mustangs to an 82-66 win over San Francisco on Wednesday evening, the Santa Maria, Calif., set a new career-high when she drained 36 points and tied her career-best in rebounds with 15. Santiago shot .519 from the floor, converting 14-of-27, while making 7-of-9 from the charity stripe.
Four days later in a Sunday matinee against the Fresno State Bulldogs, the 6-1 forward shattered her previous rebound mark with an impressive 23 boards to go along with 27 points, securing her second double-double of the week. She added four blocks and three steals to her nightly total.
For the Week, Santiago averaged 31.5 points and 19.0 rebounds per contest, while firing .543 from the floor. She also notched 2.5 assists, 3.0 blocks and 2.0 steals per game.
