Cal Poly ran away with the 2011 Big West Men's Cross Country Championship and UC Davis claimed the women's Big West Conference crown. This year's event took place at the UC Riverside Ag/Ops Course for the fourth consecutive year.

Cal Poly placed seven runners in the top 14 spots for 36 points en route to its 11th team title in the past 14 seasons. UC Santa Barbara (68) barely edged out Long Beach State (69) for second place, and UC Riverside came in fourth (101). UC Irvine finished fifth with 128 points followed by UC Davis (155), Cal State Fullerton (181) and Cal State Northridge (256).

Led by Sarah Sumpter's second place time of 20:33.7, UC Davis, who had three runners place in the top 10, scored 47 points to lead the nine-team field for its first-ever Big West Cross Country Championship. Long Beach State inched past 2010 champion UC Santa Barbara to secure second place with 61 total points. The Gauchos, one point behind the 49ers, collected 62 points and Cal Poly picked up 88 points to secure fourth place. Host UC Riverside claimed the fifth slot (115) and was followed by UC Irvine (158), Cal State Fullerton (198), Cal State Northridge (230) and Pacific (281).

After finishing in second place one year ago, UC Riverside's Chad Hall took home the men's individual crown this year, finishing the 8k race in 23:41.9. Hall becomes the first UC Riverside men's or women's cross country runner to win the individual crown since the program moved to Division I. Cal Poly's Dan Gonia claimed the second slot at 23:44.7 and Long Beach State's Heath Reedy earned third place after running a time of 23:47.2 Mustang David Cardona's mark of 23:58.5 was good enough for fourth place and UC Davis' Jon Peterson secured fifth with a mark of 24:03.6.

Long Beach State's Rosa Del Toro recorded the fastest women's time of the day, clocking in a 6K mark of 20:27.0, to become Long Beach State's first individual cross country champion. Sarah Sumpter crossed the finish line at 20:33.7 to claim second place, while a pair of Mustangs - Leanne Fogg and Meghan Breadmore - grabbed third and fourth place. Fogg ran a time of 20:41.9 with Breadmore on her heels at 20:42.8. Rounding out the top five was Long Beach State's Michelle Thompson, posting a time of 20:44.7.
