Cal State Fullerton Hosts Final Tune-up
Seven of the nine Big West Conference schools are squeezing in one last cross country meet - The Titan Invitational - before the Big West Championship on Saturday, Oct. 29. The 2011 Cal State Fullerton Titan Invitational is slated for Friday, Oct. 21 with the women's 5K kicking off the event at 5:00 p.m. The me's 8K follows at 5:30 p.m. This year's course loops around the grass recreation fields and the concrete/asphalt pathways around the Sports Complex. Azusa Pacific won both the mens and womens titles last year.

LBSU Women Make Splash In Bronco Invitational, Enter Regional Poll
In the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) regional rankings, the Long Beach State men's and women's teams are ranked at No. 9 in their respective west region polls. Both teams are the second highest ranked school from the Big West Conference as the UC Davis women and Cal Poly men comes in at No. 7 in both polls.

The 49er women moved back into the regional rankings after winning their second consecutive Bronco Invitational last weekend. Long Beach State led the field of 21 teams with 94 points, finishing ahead of five teams that were ranked in last week's west region poll. The 49ers were led by senior Rosa Del Toro, who crossed the finish line in fourth place with a school-record time of 17:09 in the 5K. Her impressive mark was also the fastest 5K time in the Big West this season.

The 49er women Join UC Davis (7th), Cal Poly (13) and UC Santa Barbara (15th) in the regional poll. On the Men's side, along with Long Beach State, Cal Poly (7th), UC Santa Barbara (11th) and UC Davis (15th) have gained national recognition.

A Look Ahead To The Big West Championship
The 2011 Big West Cross Country Championship is slated for Saturday, Oct. 29 at the UC Riverside Ag/Ops Course for the fourth consecutive year. The men's 8K begins at 8:45 a.m. and is followed by the women's 6K at 9:35 a.m. Admission for the event is $5 per person/student and kids under five are free. The parking fee is also $5 per car.

UC Davis men, headlined by Jon Peterson's top time of 23:40.2, won the 2010 title, while UC Santa Barbara claimed the women's title with the help of Amanda Moreno, Breanne Strenkowski and Crystal Reed, who finished one-two-three in last year's event.

Hall, Del Toro Collect Cross Country Honors
UC Riverside's Chad Hall received this week's Big West Mens Cross Country Athlete of the Week award, while Long Beach States Rosa Del Toro collected the Big West Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week accolade. This is Hall's third honor of the season and Del Toro's second.

Hall won his sixth-career meet and second of the season after posting a time of 23:48.0 in the Santa Clara University Bronco Invitational 8K last Saturday. The Big Bear, Calif., native beat out Cal Poly's Daniel Gonia by just six-hundredths of a second to win the event at Baylands Regional Park. As a team, the Highlanders scored 203 points to finish eighth out of 19 squads.

The Long Beach State women's team successfully defended its title at the Bronco Invitational last week with the help of Del Toro, who placed fourth with a personal-best time of 17:09.8 in the 5K. In the process, she broke the school record, set back in 2009, by five seconds. With the help of the Van Nuys, Calif., native, the 49ers finished ahead of five teams ranked in the USTFCCCA West Region Poll.
