Busy Week On Tap For Cross Country Programs
All nine Big West Schools are taking part in one of four different cross country events this weekend, two of which are hosted by conference teams. Cal Poly and Cal State Northridge are hosting home meets, while other teams take to the road for the Bronco Invitational and Pre-National Invitational. A few schools will showcase split squads to accommodate the multiple events.

Northridge Invitational This Saturday
The Cal State Northridge Cross Country Invitational takes place this Saturday on the Matadors' campus. The women's 6K gets underway at 8:00 a.m. and the men's 8K begins at 8:45 a.m. Big West teams joining the Matadors at their home meet this year are Cal State Fullerton and UC Irvine.

UC Riverside women won the team title last year, while host Cal State Northridge placed second. On the men's side, the Gauchos of UC Santa Barbara brought home the team title and the Matadors finished fifth at their home event.

Mustangs Host VS Athletics/Cal Poly Cross Country Invitational
The Cal Poly cross country program is set to host its lone event of the year this weekend with the VS Athletics/Cal Poly Cross Country Invitational. This year's event takes place Saturday, Oct. 15 at the Fairbanks Memorial Cross Country Course at Cuesta College. The women's 5K begins at 9:00 a.m. and is followed by the men's 8K at 9:30 a.m.

Runners Head To Midwest For Pre-Nationals
Indiana State has the honor of hosting the 2011 Pre-Nationals that takes place this weekend in Terre Haute, Ind. This event is a sneak peek into the 2011 NCAA Championships that is schedule for Monday, Nov. 12. The men's 8K on Saturday is slated for an 11:00 a.m. start time with the women's 6K following close behind at 11:40 a.m. eastern time. The 2011 high-profile field consists of Baylor, Central Michigan, Charlotte, Cincinnati, Colorado, Colorado State, Georgetown, Cornell, Dartmouth, Dayton, DePaul, Eastern Kentucky, Florida State, Indiana, Indiana State, Iona, Kansas State La Salle, Louisville, Loyola Marymount, Mississippi State, Missouri, New Mexico State, Oakland, Ohio, Portland, Purdue, Rice, South Carolina, Toledo, Tulsa, UMKC, UTEP, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech, Western Kentucky, Wyoming and Xavier, along with Big West members UC Davis and UC Santa Barbara.

Loaded Field At Bronco Invitational
Six Big West schools - Cal Poly, Long Beach State, UC Riverside, UC Santa Barbara and Pacific - are all slated to compete in the Santa Clara University Bronco Invitational Saturday, Oct. 15 at Baylands Regional Park. A community fun run kicks off the event with both the men's and women's collegiate events to follow. The women's 5K Invitational is set for 9:45 a.m. and the men's 8K Invitational has a 10:30 a.m. start time.

Castro Grabs Big West Honor
Katie Castro was the top finisher for the Pacific Tigers in last weeks UCSD Triton Classic, earning her Big West Womens Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors. This is Pacifics first honor of the season.

The Los Gatos, Calif., native placed 17th out of 122 runners after crossing the finish line with a time of 23:44 in the womens 6k. It was the second fastest time for the freshman.
