Whitson Assists In UC Davis 2-0 Week

UC Davis' history-in-the-making season continued last week with the help of Allison Whitson, who guided the Aggies to a 2-0 record to start conference play, earning her Big West Women's Volleyball Player of the Week honors.

In UC Davis' conference-opening victory over northern California rival Pacific, the junior from Palo Alto, Calif., hit a season-high .522. She tallied 14 kills on 23 attempts with just two errors. Whitson also added eight digs and four total blocks to her total.

Later in the week the Aggies downed UC Irvine, 3-2, to extend their win streak to 11 matches. In the five-set thriller, the outside hitter notched a double-double with 19 kills and 15 digs, while also registering five total blocks. Whitson has increased her career kills total to 989, looking to become the seventh player in school history to break the 1,000 barrier.

For the week, Whitson averaged 4.12 kills, 2. 88 digs and 1.12 blocks per set, while posting a .299 hitting percentage.
