Pacific, UC Santa Barbara Advance To Men's Tennis Semifinals

No. 3 Pacific and No. 4 UC Santa Barbara cruised to victories in first round action of the Big West Men's Tennis Championships on Friday at Indian Wells Tennis Garden.  The Tigers will play No. 2 Cal Poly and the Gauchos will face top-seeded UC Irvine in semifinal action Saturday.

No. 3 seed Pacific rolled to a 4-0 win against sixth-seeded UC Davis in the first round of the Big West Men's Tennis Championship on Friday at Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

The Tigers collected the doubles point as Artem Gramma and Tomasz Krzyszkowski won at No. 3 while Fernando Ristow and Angus Thomson were victorious at No. 2.

In singles play, Ivan Castro put the Tigers up 2-0 when he whitewashed Kyle Miller 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4.  Alex Golding was a 6-1, 6-3 winner against Chris Aria.  Ristow notched the match-clinching point with his 6-0, 6-4 victory at No. 3.

Pacific (12-10) advances to Saturday's semifinal action against No. 2 seed Cal Poly at 9:00 a.m.  UC Davis finishes its season at 5-13.

Fourth-seeded UC Santa Barbara posted a 4-0 victory against No. 5 seed UC Riverside in a Big West Men's Tennis Championship first round match Friday at Indian Wells Tennis Garden.

The Gauchos racked up the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions.  They sealed the point when Philip Therp and Evan Jurgensen defeated Rainier Matias and Sean Peterson at the third spot.

Therp returned at No. 6 singles to deliver a 6-1, 6-0 victory against UCR's Kevin Griffin.  UCSB kept the momentum going as Max Glenn rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 win against Ryan Stanbury at No. 4.  The match wrapped up with Mathieu Forget earning a 6-1, 6-0 decision against Mike Conroy at No. 3.

UCSB (10-14) will face top-seeded UC Irvine in the semifinals at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.  The Highlanders conclude their season at 3-19.
