WOMEN'S QUARTERFINALS
PACIFIC (4), UC SANTA BARBARA (3)

In a match that lasted 4 hours and 52 minutes, fifth-seeded Pacific claimed a 4-3 win against No. 4 UC Santa Barbara culminating in a win at No. 5 singles by freshman Susan Te.

The match between Te and fellow freshman Kiersten Meehan of UC Santa Barbara, which ran well over three hours, had just finished the first set when all other five singles matches had been completed.

Te dropped the first set in a 7-6 tiebreaker but did not get swept away with Meehan's momentum.  Te clawed back to capture the second set 6-3.  With dwindling daylight came the decision to move the match to a lighted court.  In the end, Te walked away with an emotional 6-7 (3), 6-3, 6-1 triumph that clinched the win for the Tigers.

All other singles matches were finished in straight sets.  UCSB, which had captured the doubles point, took a commanding 2-0 lead with Jill Damion's 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles.

Pacific roared back at No. 1 when Jenifer Widjaja handed Natalia Lozano a 6-1, 6-2 setback.  But the Gauchos regained a two-point lead at 3-1 as Paola Cos outlasted Kateryna Nezhura 6-4, 6-3.

The Tigers evened the match at 3-3 with wins at No. 4 and No. 2 by Shabby Eslami and Julia Hansen in two tight affairs.  Hansen knotted the contest after defeating Sofia Novak 6-3, 7-5.

That set the stage for an epic duel between Te and Meehan.

Pacific advances to Saturday's semifinals at 3:00 p.m. when top-seeded Long Beach State awaits.  UCSB, which has been ranked nationally for much of the season, finishes a solid season with a 13-10 record.
