Long Beach State Set To Host Annual Del Walker Intercollegiate: The 15th annual Del Walker Intercollegiate, hosted by the Long Beach State men's program, is set to take place at the Virginia Country Club (par 70; 6,633 yards) March 7-8. The two-day, 54-hole tournament begins on Monday with 36 holes and 18 holes on Tuesday. Both days begin at 7:00 a.m. and live stats will be available at www.golfstat.com. This year's field features 10 teams from across the nation, including Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Northridge, Long Beach State, Louisiana Monroe, Northern Colorado, Santa Clara, UC Riverside, Washington State, Weber State and Wichita State. The Del Walker also has individuals participating in this year's tournament from Loyola Marymount, UCLA and USC.
Titans Host Inaugural Event in March: The inaugural Folino Invitational, presented by The Automobile Club of Southern California, will be held on March 20-22 at the Oak Creek Golf Club in Irvine, Calif. Ten men's teams will compete over 54 holes and seven women's teams will vie over 36 holes in conjunction with a fund-raising amateur tournament for 22 foursomes of corporate sponsors and invited guests. Both the men's and women's teams from Cal State Fullerton, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, Cal State Northridge and Cal Poly will be competing along with the mens teams from Cal State Bakersfield, Seattle University, St. John's, Loyola Marymount and UC Santa Barbara and the women from Long Beach State, Portland State and Sacramento State.
Anteater Invitational Comes To Town: The UC Irvine women's golf program is gearing up for its annual tournament - Anteater Invitational. The two-day event, scheduled for March 28 and 29, takes place at Dove Canyon Country Club. Joining the Anteaters are San Francisco, Portland State, Long Beach State, Cal State Fullerton, Idaho, Cal State Northridge, Hawaii, Iowa, Nevada UC Riverside and Northern Colorado.
Gauchos Men Host March Event: The UC Santa Barbara men's program host the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate March 28-29 at the Sandpiper Golf Club in Goleta, Calif. Along with the Gauchos, five other Big West schools are set to compete in the two-day event - Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Northridge, Long Beach State, UC Riverside and Pacific.
UC Davis Women Climb Rankings: Coming off an impressive second-place this week at the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational, the UC Davis women's golf team received further good news on Wednesday by being ranked 18th by Golfstat. The defending Big West Conference champions were ranked 22nd heading into this weeks event in San Jose but only finished behind ninth-ranked Cal while beating three other teams ranked in the top 35. The Aggies are also placed 23rd in the Golfweek/Sagarin ratings.
UCD's Raber and LBSU's Hoey Begin Spring Season With Big West Award: UC Davis' Tyler Raber and Long Beach State's Simone Hoey earned the first Big West Golfer of the Month accolades for the spring season.
Raber kicked off the spring season with a three-round score of 214 (70-70-74) at the Amer Ari Invitational, tying him for 36th. Two weeks later he tied for 23rd at the Battle at the Beach tournament after scoring 214. He opened the three-day event with a team-best 68. In his final event of February, the USC Collegiate Invitational, he carded a first-round score of 73 and bested his performance by six strokes with a four-under-par 67 in the final round. After starting the final round in 16th place, he tied for third overall, which is the best individual finish of any Aggie all year.
Hoey captured individual medalist honors at The Gold Rush, her first career tournament win, with a three-round total of 219 (73-74-72). The Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., native also led the 49ers in the Bruin Wave Invitational, placing 29th with a twelve-over 228. Hoey shot a season low round of 72 in each respective tournament.
