Two impressive showings by Emilie Johnson lifted UC Santa Barbara to a 2-0 week and pushed her past the 1,000-career point barrier, earning her Big West Women's Basketball Player of the Week honors. This is Johnson's second accolade of the year.
In Thursday's 74-70 victory over Long Beach State, Johnson drained 17 points while pulling down four rebounds. The Loomis, Calif., native, drained seven of her 17 points in the second half, along with three assists, to help the Gauchos win the game and clinch home court advantage in the first round of the ampm Big West Tournament. In the game, she shot 6-for-14 from the field and 4-for-9 from three-point range.
Two days later Johnson guided the Gauchos to a 71-52 win against Cal State Northridge, scoring a game-high 17 points. Her point total also helped her surpass 1,000 points for her career. She scored 19 of her 27 points in the first half.
She averaged 22.0 points and tallied a .500 field goal percentage for the week, as the Gauchos extended their winning streak to six games.
