UC Santa Barbara's Mekia Valentine collected her second Big West Women's Basketball Player of the Week honor after lifting the Gauchos to a 2-0 week.
The Greensboro, N.C., native, recorded her first of two double-doubles for the week in the 73-70 victory over Cal State Fullerton. Valentine drained 11 points, grabbed 16 rebounds and blocked five shots.
In Sundays victory over Seattle, the senior forward/center tallied 13 points and 17 rebounds for her third consecutive double-double. She also registered seven swats to increase her season block total to 100, making her the fifth Big West player to post two 100-block seasons. In 2009-10, she recorded the fourth-best single-season performance in conference history, registering 120 blocks.
Valentine averaged 16.5 rebounds per game and 12.0 points per game for the Gauchos, who have won four in a row.
