Prestigious Triton Invitational Up Next This Weekend
After a light schedule last week, the women’s water polo slate is much busier this week with the annual Triton Invitational on Feb. 12-13. Four Big West schools – Cal State Northridge, Long Beach State, UC Irvine and UC Santa Barbara – are competing in the 16-team field. Ten schools are ranked in the top 20 of the Collegiate Water Polo Association poll, including No. 3 UCLA, No. 6 Loyola Marymount and No. 7 Michigan.
Teams are divided into four groups of four and play two matches on Saturday and two more on Sunday. UCI and UCSB were paired together in Group C with Michigan and Marist. The Anteaters and Gauchos make first splash at noon on Saturday. Cal State Northridge, sharing Group B with Loyola Marymount, Cal State Bakersfield and Cal State East Bay, meets the Roadrunners at 9:20 a.m. UC Irvine faces Maryland in a Group D matchup at 12:30 p.m. and plays either San Diego State or Sonoma State in its second match of the day.
More group play takes place on Sunday with the placing matches concluding the tournament in the afternoon.
Pacific is heading across the country to participate in the Princeton Invitational in Princeton, N.J. The Tigers battle Brown, Villanova, George Washington and the host and 18th-ranked Tigers over the course of the two-day event. Pacific is 2-3 on the young season while playing eight of its first nine games on the road.
Big West Teams Remain Steady In National Poll
