Orane Chin (Miramar, Fla./South Florida) helped Cal State Fullerton log important victories over a pair of league contenders to capture Big West Men's Basketball Player of the Week accolades.
Chin's all-around play was key in Titan triumphs over first place Long Beach State (89-87) and UC Santa Barbara (63-58), the teams picked to finish one-two in the preseason media poll.
He nearly posted a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds against the 49ers. Chin shot 5 of 10 from the field while adding three assists and a steal as the Titans handed LBSU its first conference setback in seven tries.
Chin contributed 18 points, six rebounds, two blocks and three steals in the win over the Gauchos. He connected on 6 of 11 from the floor and 6 of 8 at the charity stripe. He scored 11 unanswered points in the first half versus UCSB as the Titans wiped out a 15-9 deficit and created a 20-15 lead.
The junior forward also hit two crucial free throws with 3:15 remaining to put the Titans up 51-50, triggering a decisive 9-0 run.
For the week, Chin averaged 15.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game. He hit 52.4% (11 of 21) from the field and 72.7% (8 of 11) from the foul line.
