Larry Anderson (Long Beach, Calif./Jordan HS) made a triumphant return to the Long Beach State lineup and led the 49ers to two key conference road wins, earning Big West Men's Basketball Player of the Week honors for his efforts.
Anderson, who missed six games with a broken hand, dominated in his first game back against Big West preseason favorite UC Santa Barbara. Coming off the bench, he scored a career-high tying 25 points and made 9 of 10 shots as the 49ers cruised to a 71-55 victory in the Big West opener for both teams on Tuesday.
The junior collected eight rebounds, three assists and two blocked shots while spearheading an LBSU defensive effort that limited the Gauchos to a season-low in points.
Anderson rejoined the starting lineup for Thursday's 69-53 win at Cal Poly. He notched 11 points, six rebounds and three steals in 35 minutes of action. He made 4 of 5 floor shots and finished the week with only two misses in 15 attempts.
For the week, Anderson averaged 18.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game while shooting 86.7% (13 of 15) from the field and 81.8% (9 of 11) from the charity stripe.
