Engelhardt Named 2010 AVSR Global Player Of The Year

Courtesy of Pacific Athletics With her final collegiate season in the books, senior Svenja Engelhardt picked up her final on-court honor as a Tiger after being named the American Volleyball Scouting Report (AVSR) Global Player of the Year for the 2010 season. This was the first time in Engelhardt's career the senior garnered the distinction.

Earlier in the season Engelhardt was named the AVSA Global Player of the Week for her play during the week ending on October 17. It was the third time in her career that she earned the weekly award as she also was named the award's recipient as a both a junior and a sophomore.

For the season, Engelhardt put together one of the finest single-season campaign's in Pacific program history to lead a young Tiger team to a 19-11 overall finish. At the pins, the senior posted an impressive 508 kills in 116 games to finish the year with a 4.38 kills per game average. Her per game average ranked No. 16 in the country while ranking No. 1 among Big West attackers. Additionally, Engelhardt's 508 kills marked just the ninth time in program history a Tiger attack has hit the 500 kill plateau in a single campaign.

In addition to her dominance at the net offensively, Engelhardt put together her finest defensive season of her career as she tallied 297 digs (2.56 per game). With her efforts on both sides of the ball, Engelhardt tallied 14 double-doubles throughout Pacific's 30 matches. She also added a team-best 30 aces while notching a career-best 61 blocks. For the year, Engelhardt posted a career-high 573 points for an average of 4.4 points per game, tying for the 16th best total in all of Division I volleyball.

Engelhardt has also been named to the AVCA All-Region team and a First Team All-Big West member for her play during the 2010 season. She finished her career among Pacific's all-time greatest players as she posted 1,386 career kills, No. 9 in Pacific's record books. Her 175 career aces ranks No. 2 on Pacific's all-time aces list while her 0.45 ace per game total tied for the all-time best per game average among Pacific servers.
