Big West Trumps A Pair Of Power Conferences
The Big West picked up a couple of notable wins in non-conference play last week. Long Beach State closed out the Paradise Jam Tournament in solid fashion, beating Big Ten Conference opponent Iowa, 78-72, to claim fourth place. Cal State Northridge then knocked off Big East Conference foe DePaul, 88-66, on the second day of the Big West and ESPN-hosted 76 Classic. The Matadors stormed to an early lead that they would not relinquish after hitting their first 10 shots of the game.
Long Beach State Faces Second Ranked Opponent
A full slate of non-conference games greets Big West teams this week. Long Beach State travels to No. 22 Washington on Tuesday in the Big West’s lone matchup against a ranked team this week. The 49ers fell to No. 25 San Diego State in the season opener on Nov. 13. The game against the Huskies starts a stretch in which the 49ers play eight of their next nine games on the road.

It was the 10th career double-double for the forward, who is averaging 11.2 rebounds per game to lead the Big West. Willard also ranks third among conference players in scoring at 17.7 points per game. The Big West active career leader with 619 rebounds, Willard now ranks No. 15 all-time at Pacific. He also has accounted for nearly 30 percent of the Tiger scoring this so far this season.
