Artem Gramma of Pacific and Brittany Blalock of Cal Poly were selected as recipients of this week's tennis honors after both players went unbeaten in singles, including against Big West competition.
Gramma Helps Pacific Defeat Two Conference Foes
Artem Gramma (Krivoj Roj, Ukraine/University of Krivoj Roj) won a combined five matches in singles and doubles to lead Pacific to a 3-0 record and earn him Big West Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week honors.
Gramma won all three of his singles matches in straight sets at No. 1. He defeated Andrea Zannoni of Saint Mary’s 6-3, 6-3 to start out the week. In Pacific’s 7-0 win against No. 51 UC Irvine, Gramma collected a 6-0, 6-4 victory against Zac Tsai. He finished out the week with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph against UC Riverside’s Quoc Doan as the Tigers swept the Highlanders for their second win in conference play.
His win over Tsai was his fourth win over an opponent from a ranked team this season.
Partnering with Ivan Castro, he also went 2-1 at No. 1 doubles.

Blalock Goes Combined 4-0 at Singles and Doubles
Cal Poly’s
Brittany Blalock (Palm Desert, Calif./Palm Desert HS) captured Big West Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week honors after winning all four matches she contested in a pair of Mustang wins.
Blalock was a 7-6, 6-3 winner at No. 2 singles against Catherine Isip of Saint Mary’s in narrow 4-3 team loss to the Gaels. She also recorded a 6-1, 6-1 victory against Nadia Sakhakorn from UC Riverside at No. 1 singles as the Mustangs rebounded to defeat the Highlanders 7-0.
In doubles action with teammate Suzie Matzenauer, she went 2-0 for the week at the No. 1 position.
