Terdoslavich, Hollands Collect Baseball Weekly Honors

Long Beach State's Joey Terdoslavich helped his team to a series win over No. 21 Wichita State to claim Big West Baseball Field Player of the Week honors, while UC Santa Barbara's Mario Hollands tied a single-game school record with 16 strikeouts against Northern Illinois to earn the Pitcher of the Week award.

Terdoslavich Hits .615 As 49ers Win Three Out Of Four

Joey Terdoslavich (Sarasota, Fla/Miami (FL) helped Long Beach State to a series victory over No. 21 Wichita State and hit .615 in four games to claim Big West Baseball Field Player of the Week honors.

Terdoslavich, a transfer from Miami (FL), had at least one hit in each of the four games, finishing 8-for-13 (.615) for the week.  He scored a pair of runs and had five RBI as the 49ers took two of three games from the Shockers and also won a midweek game against San Diego State.

In a pinch hit appearance versus San Diego State on Tuesday, Terdoslavich singled in the game-winning run in a 4-3 victory.

He rode that momentum into the Wichita State series, going 1-for-4 with a double in the first game.  In the next two contests, Terdoslavich produced six hits in eight at bats with four RBI.

In Saturday’s 7-4 victory, he went 3-for-4 with a run scored and RBI.  On Sunday, he had another 3-for-4 performance to go along with a double, three RBI and a run scored.  He also slugged .769 for the week.

Hollands Ties Single-Game School Record With 16 Strikeouts
UC Santa Barbara ace Mario Hollands tied the school’s single-game strikeout record in an 8-1 complete game victory against Northern Illinois to earn the Big West Baseball Pitcher of the Week award.

The junior left-hander struck out 16 batters to tie the single-game record set twice previously by Walt Rehm on Mar. 26, 1970 and Barry Zito on Apr. 5, 1997.

Hollands yielded just five hits and one run in facing only seven batters over the minimum.  He had a shutout through the first eight innings before surrendering his only run in the ninth.

The complete game was the first for Hollands since Mar. 6, 2009 when he allowed only one hits in nine innings versus Loyola Marymount.
