For the second straight week Long Beach State walked away with the Big West Women's Volleyball Player of the Week award, with this week's accolade going to senior Naomi Washington for helping the 49ers secure their second straight conference crown, 10th overall. This is the second award of the season for Washington.
Against UC Riverside Friday evening, Washington led the 49ers with 11 kills on .241 hitting and added two aces in a 3-0 victory. The win over the Highlanders set up a crucial, winner-take-all match against UC Irvine the following night.
In her final Big West contest, Washington had one of the best matches of her career; helping the 49ers defeat UC Irvine in five sets to send LBSU to its 23rd consecutive NCAA Tournament. The New Orleans, La., native led the 49ers with 26 kills on .421 hitting and tallied a career-high 10 digs in her first double-double. Washington also added an ace and four blocks versus the Anteaters.
On the weekend, Washington averaged 4.62 kills per set while hitting .346.
