Spearheading a UC Santa Barbara squad that posted back-to-back wins over No. 15 San Diego earned Rebecca Saraceno (Redondo Beach, Calif./Redondo Union HS) Big West Player of the Week, for the week ending Sept. 7. This is the first weekly accolade for the senior outside hitter.
In the sweep over the Toreros, Saraceno led UC Santa Barbara in kills in both matches. Saraceno's 24 kills on Friday was one off her career-high while she hit an incredible .676. She committed just one error and blasted three block assists to finish second on the team. On Saturday, Saraceno again led the Gauchos with 16 kills, while pacing the squad with four block assists. She averaged 20 kills per match in the two wins and hit .383.
