Clutch Play Nets Long Beach State's Morris Weekly Honor

Long Beach State senior Donovan Morris (San Bernardino, CA/Fresno State) captured his third career Big West Men's Basketball Player of the Week award, leading the 49ers to wins against Idaho State and New Mexico State.

Morris averaged 27.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game as Long Beach State ran its winning streak to three games.  He shot 46.4% (13 of 28) from the floor, 50.0% (6 of 12) from three-point range and 84.6% (22 of 26) at the charity stripe.

He put forth a clutch effort in Tuesday's 88-82 win in double overtime at Idaho State.  He scored 14 of his 24 points in the second overtime to help the 49ers end a seven-game road slide.  Morris also knocked down 14 of 16 free throws in the game.

Against the Aggies Sunday, Morris produced his fifth career 30-point game in an 82-77 home victory.  He hit 9 of 16 floor shots, including 4 of 7 from distance.  He added four assists and two steals.

Once again, he stepped up at a critical juncture of the game.  With LBSU trailing 75-71 and 2:16 remaining, Morris led a 9-0 run to give the 49ers an 80-75 lead.
