UC Davis Claims Top Spot After Day Two At The Big West Championship

After the second day of competition UC Davis has claimed the number one slot after trailing UC Irvine by five strokes entering the second round at the Big West Women’s Golf Championship in San Luis Obispo, finishing with a second-round score of 295 for a two-day total of 600, as they look to clinch their third-consecutive championship going into the final day of competition.

UC Irvine finished the day with a 302 total, a two-stroke differential from the top slot, with a 602 overall in the two-rounds played.  Long Beach State continues to hold the third spot shooting 305 on the day, for a two-round total of 611, while Cal State Fullerton advances to the fourth position with low 6-under par totaling 294 for the day, and a combined 613 after two rounds.  The Matadors of Cal State Northridge claim the fifth spot totaling 621 (313-308) followed by Cal Poly with a two-round total of 629 (320-309) and UC Riverside 644 (322-322).

Bev Vatananugulkit of UC Davis, one of the three golfers with a 72 Monday, has a one-stroke lead entering the final round with a three-over-par 147 total. Valerio and Amy Simanton of UC Davis share second place with 148 totals and Simone Hoey of Long Beach State is fourth at 149.

Neomi Hunt of Cal State Fullerton and Ronnie Valerio of UC Irvine both carded 71s, matching the course record set by Jane Chin of UC Irvine in 2009.

The final round of the Big West Women’s Golf Championships tee’s off at 7:30 a.m. with the top three teams to tee off last.
