Two-time UC Irvine All-American CoCo Goodson was chosen in the second round, 12th overall, by the Philadelphia Independence in Friday's Women's Professional Soccer League draft.

Goodson is the second Anteater to be taken in the WPS draft, following in the footsteps of 2010 teammate Tanya Taylor.  Taylor was a fourth round selection of the Boston Breakers in the 2011 WPS draft.

After transferring from Texas, Goodson made a significant impact in her two seasons as an Anteater as a two-time Big West Defensive Player of the Year.  She anchored a stingy UCI backline that played a strong role in the program's back-to-back Big West regular season titles and berths into the NCAA Tournament.

In 2010, Goodson scored nine goals to rank second in the Big West and topped all players with five game-winners.  She helped guide the team into the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 in the program's inaugural postseason appearance.  Goodson was named an NSCAA First Team All-American for her efforts.

Capturing NSCAA Second Team All-American honors in 2011, Goodson again turned in a solid campaign with 11 points on three goals and five assists.  The Anteaters allowed only 20 goals in 21 games with Goodson anchoring the defense.

Four Big West players have been selected by the WPS since the inaugural draft in 2009.  Cal State Fullerton's Karen Bardsley (New York/New Jersey) and Erica Janke (Los Angeles) were picked in the third and ninth rounds of the 2009 draft, respectively.
