Three Big West schools will make the trip south to San Diego this weekend to partcipate in the 62nd Annual Aztec Invitational at historic Balboa Park.
Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Northridge and Long Beach State will compete in the race, attracts the top cross country squads from around the nation.
The meet first began in 1943 with a men’s race and women’s race was added 34 years later in 1977. The host school, San Diego State, competed in a race last week hosted by a Big West member. The Aztecs joined several other squads at the Fullerton Season Opener.
Pacific and UC Riverside will also see action this weekend. The Tigers head to Turlock, CA for the Warrior Open, while the Highlanders will go to Seattle, WA to participate in the Washington Invitational.
Two Big West squads are also receiving national recognition as the Cal Poly men’s team and the UC Santa Barbara women’s contingent both are receiving votes in the Mondo and FinishLynx national preseason polls, respectively. Both clubs were favored to take home the Big West titles as voted on by the league’s head coaches.
