UC Irvine in Eighth Place, Cal Poly in 16th at NCAA West Regional

The UC Irvine and Cal Poly men's golf teams stand in eighth and 16th place respectively after two rounds of the NCAA West Regional at Tucson National Golf Club in Tucson, Ariz. The Anteaters fired a 4-under-par 284 on Friday for a two round total of 567 (-9). Cal Poly climbed two spots on the team leaderboard after posting a 1-under par 287, owning a two round total of 577 (+1).

Individually, UC Irvine junior Brian Edick is tied for 10th at 6-under-par after carding a second consecutive 69. All four UCI scoring golfers shot rounds of par or better on Friday. Kenny Kim shot a 1-under 71 while Garrett Sapp and Derek Uyesaka had even par rounds of 72. Kim is tied for 22nd at 4-under 140 and Sapp is tied for 38th at 2-under 142.

The Anteaters are two shots ahead of Washington and Nevada, which are both tied for ninth. The top 10 teams from the NCAA Regional field of 27 advance to the NCAA Championships. Arizona leads the tournament with a two round total of 552 (-24). North Carolina State and Florida are tied for second at 21-under par (555).

Cal Poly stands eight strokes off the top 10 cutline after two golfers shot under par and another at even par on Friday. Senior Travis Bertoni rebounded from a first round 75 to fire a 3-under 69 iin the second. He is tied for 57th with a two round total of 144. Sophomore J.J. Scurich had the best round of any Mustang with his 5-under 67, moving into a tie for 22nd overall at 4-under 140. Sophomore Dave Lewinski followed his opening round 68 with a 72 and currently shares team top honors with Scurich at 140 overall.

Long Beach State junior Ryan Wood, competing as an individual, rebounded from and opening day 79 and posted a 74. He is tied for 125th at 9-over 153.
