Fitzgerald Leads UC Irvine To Three Big West Wins, Earns Weekly Honor
UC Irvine senior Aaron Fitzgerald (Seattle, WA/Jacksonville College) earned Big West Men's Basketball Player of the Week honors after helping the Anteaters to three league victories.
The Anteaters defeated UC Santa Barbara (70-66), Cal State Northridge (76-62) and Pacific (70-61) to move to 4-0 in Big West play. The 6-1 point guard averaged 15.7 points, 7.0 assists and 1.3 steals per game for the week. He also shot 50 percent (14 of 28) from the floor and 40 percent (6 of 15) from the free throw line.
Fitzgerald began the week on Monday with 15 points and five assists in the road victory over the Gauchos. He then stepped up his play in the second half of both home wins. Fitzgerald scored 14 of his 16 points in the final stanza versus CSUN, dishing out nine assists and adding a pair of steals. Against the Tigers, he recorded all 16 of his points in the second half. He chipped in with six rebounds and seven assists while also dropping in a trio of three-pointers.
