Trio Of Schools Host March Events


Big West Conference Golf Release - March

Davis Women Set To Host Gunrock Invitational:
The UC Davis women’s golf program is scheduled to host the inaugural Gunrock Invitational at the Del Paso Country Club (par 72; yardage 6,224) March 4-5.  Visiting Sacramento for this two-day 54-hole event are the University of British Columbia, Cal, Cal Poly, Coastal Carolina, Grand Canyon, Nevada, Northern Colorado, Sacramento State, South Dakota and UC Riverside. Thirty-six holes will take place at Sacramento’s oldest and most storied course, starting Monday, followed by Tuesday’s final round, which will also begin at 8:30 a.m.

Mustangs Host Local Tournament:
The Cal Poly men close out the month of March hosting the Cal Poly Match Play Championship at Cypress Ridge Golf Course in Arroyo Grande, Calif., March 25-26.  Big West schools joining the Mustangs are UC Irvine and UC Santa Barbara.

Busy Month For Rainbow Wahine:
As the Big West Conference women’s golf tournament approaches, Hawai’i closes out the regular season hosting back-to-back tournaments in March.  First up is the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational set for March 12-13 in Kane‘ohe, O‘ahu.  UC Irvine is the only other league school listed to participate in the two-day event.  The following week, the Rainbow Wahine host the Anuenue Spring Break Classic in Waikoloa, Hawai‘i, March 21-23.

Titan Men Claim Team Title:
After holding the top spot at the conclusion of round two, Cal State Fullerton held onto its lead to win the UCI Anteater Invitational at the Big Canyon Country Club. The Titans shot 3-over par 291 on the final day, finishing with a final score of 1-under par 863 and was the only team to finish with a score under-par. Grand Canyon finished in second place shooting 10-over par 874 for the tournament.

CP’s Scholtes Finishes Tied For First Place:
Mustang freshman Elizabeth Scholtes concluded the Battle at the Rock  tournament tied for first with USC individual Alyaa Abdulghany with four-under-par 212 totals over 54 holes. Scholtes carded rounds of 68, 72 and 72 while Abdulghany finished with rounds of 70, 74 and 68.  Unfortunately, Abdulghany won the playoff to earn the individual medalist trophy. As a team, the Mustangs finished one stroke back of team champion Grand Canyon.

LBSU’s Pate Drains Hole-In-One:
Freshman Hunter Pate recorded a hole-in-one on the Par-3 No. 7 during her final round of  the Rebel Beach Invitational at Spanish Trail Country Club.
