MEN'S TENNIS ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

UC Santa Barbara senior Nicolas Moreno de Alboran captured his fourth career Big West Men’s Tennis Athlete of the Week award after collecting a singles and doubles victory over nationally ranked competition.

• Moreno de Alboran toppled No. 118 Zdenek Derkas of Fresno State by a score of 6-3, 6-0 and his win helped the Gauchos to a 4-1 road victory.

• He also won both of his doubles matches with partner Anders Holm at the No. 1 position. The most impressive win was against No. 19-ranked August Holmgren and Joel Gamerov of San Diego, 6-1. It was their first win over a ranked opponent this season.

• They also defeated Fresno State’s Angus Bradshaw and Mantas Bugailiskis in doubles, 6-3.

• The No. 9 ranked singles player in the country, Moreno de Alboran’s only setback of the week came in a three-set loss to USD’s Gui Osorio, 3-6, 7-5, 6-1. Moreno de Alboran is 2-2 in singles and 3-2 in doubles this season.

WOMEN'S TENNIS ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

UC Santa Barbara senior Stephanie Yamada secured her second Big West Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week award as she helped her squad win a pair of non-conference matches.

• Yamada finished 2-0 in singles and 1-0 in doubles as the Gauchos upended Nevada (5-2) and Saint Mary’s (4-3).

• She won both of her singles contests at No. 5. Her victory against Nevada’s Selina Turulja by a 2-6, 6-1, 7-6 (8) score was key in giving the Wolf Pack their first loss of the season.

• Yamada rolled to a 6-1, 6-2 triumph over Saint Mary’s Aubane Ville.

• Yamada and teammate Elizaveta Volodko breezed to a 6-1 victory at No. 1 doubles against the Gael duo of Hind Abdelouhid and Chloe Goyette.

• The Gauchos have now won three straight contests as a team.
