Several schools are hosting men’s and women’s matches this weekend, so further schedule changes could be forthcoming.
UC DAVIS MEN CONTINUE D-I PROGRAM BEST START
The UC Davis men improved to 6-0 with last week’s victories over Nevada and Sonoma State, which lengthens the school’s best Division I start to a season. Weather permitting, the Aggies are scheduled to play a Friday doubleheader at No. 5 USC and at Hope International.
VIVA LAS VEGAS FOR UC RIVERSIDE, HAWAI‘I MEN
The UC Riverside and Hawai‘i men are playing a cluster of matches in Las Vegas this weekend. The two league combatants will square off against each other in a designated non-conference match on Friday. The Highlanders and Rainbow Warriors will meet April 7 in Honolulu in what will count in the Big West standings.
Both teams will battle host UNLV, Weber State and New Mexico State over the three-day period.
AGGIE WOMEN TAKE ON NO. 1 STANFORD
After an 0-3 start, including two straight 4-3 losses, the schedule does not get any easier for the UC Davis women’s squad. Next up for the Aggies is No. 1 Stanford on Saturday in Palo Alto. The team also plays at Santa Clara on the brief two-match Bay Area roadtrip.
LONG BEACH STATE BEGINS WITH BIG WEST WIN
Long Beach State won its 14th straight Big West opener last Saturday in a 5-2 defeat of UC Riverside. The Beach also improved to 23-0 against the Highlanders all-time.
TITANS WIN ANOTHER SEASON OPENER
Cal State Fullerton won a season opener for the fifth straight year as it defeated UC San Diego, 7-0, on Wednesday. The Titans, which had 17 wins in 2016, 19 in 2017 and 20 in 2018, reached the Big West Tournament finals last season - the first such appearance in school history.
INDIAN WELLS HOSTS BIG WEST TOURNAMENT
Indian Wells Tennis Garden is hosting the Big West Men’s and Women’s Tennis Tournament for the 16th consecutive year. One of the premier facilities in the United States – and a host to the BNP Paribas Open – Indian Wells will host all six men’s and nine women’s teams from April 25-28. Since 2004, the first year the tournament was held at IWTG, the UCSB men have won nine titles while LBSU is the women’s leader with 11.
