2018 Big West Fall All-Academic Team
A record number 224 student-athletes from nine member institutions and an associate men’s soccer member were named members of the 2018 Big West Conference Fall All-Academic team for the sports of women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s soccer, and men’s and women’s cross country.
To be eligible for the All-Academic team, student-athletes must maintain a 3.0 cumulative grade point average, complete one full academic year at the member institution prior to the season for which the award is being received (at least a sophomore academically), and compete in at least 50 percent of their team’s contests.
The 224 representatives smashes the previous record of 203 set in 2014.
Several individual sports records were also set, including women’s soccer with 77 all-academic honorees, women’s volleyball (42) and men's soccer (35). Women’s cross country combined for 44 representatives, while men’s cross country had 26.
UC Davis and UC Santa Barbara tied for conference-high honors with 29 all-academic recipients. Cal Poly had 28 honorees, followed by UC Irvine and UC Riverside with 26 apiece. CSUN (22), Cal State Fullerton (21), Hawai‘i (20) and Long Beach State (18) also had strong representation. Men’s soccer associate member Sacramento State had five student-athletes selected to the fall team.
