Big West Women's Volleyball All-America Honors

A week after being named American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Region, a trio of Big West Conference women’s volleyball players were tabbed AVCA All-America Honorable Mention.

Torrey and Adlee Van Winden, from Cal Poly, were named to the AVCA All-Pacific North Region Team last week, with Torrey earning her third accolade and Adlee picking up her first all-region honor. Last year Adlee was selected for the All-Pacific North Regional Honorable Mention team.  This is the second year in a row both were named All-Americans, becoming just the second and third Mustangs to do so and the first time since Jennifer Keddy did so in 2010-11.

Representing the Big West on the 2018 AVCA All-Pacific South Region Team, UC Santa Barbara’s Lindsey Ruddins collected her third consecutive AVCA All-America Honorable Mention honor.

The 2018 Big West Conference Player of the Year, Torrey Van Winden, ended the regular season ranked second in the conference and third in the country in kills per set with a 5.07 average, which is the second highest in a single-season in school history, surpassing her 4.83 average from last season. She also paced the league with a .365 hitting percentage. The junior from Napa, Calif., who helped Cal Poly capture its second straight conference title, ranked third in the nation with a 5.74 points per set average and 18th with a total of 528.5 points. She captured four Big West Conference Player of the Week accolades during the 2018 season.

Adlee finished the regular season 10th in the Big West and second on the team in kills per set with a 2.84 average. She also ranked third on the team in digs per set at 2.53, tied for first in service aces with 22 and fifth in total blocks with 34 and led the team in solo blocks with 13. She recorded seven double-doubles and three times finished with 20 or more kills in a match. She finishes her career ranked fifth in kills in program history with 1,364 and ninth in career kills per set average.

Ruddins, a 2018 All-Big West First Team member, concluded the 2018 season tallying career-highs in numerous statistical categories, including kills (587), attempts (1597), aces (41), digs (304), blocks (59) and points (662). Ruddins’ 5.34 kills per set ranked second in the nation this year and are second all-time at UCSB, trailing only herself.  Besides leading the league in kills for the second straight year, she finished second in the conference in aces, 13th in digs and 18th in blocks. She also broke her own program record with five Big West Player of the Week awards this year, one more than she had in 2017. Ruddins, who takes home her second consecutive all-regional first team honor, previously earned an all-regional honorable mention following the 2016 season. The Laguna Niguel, Calif., native now joins Roberta Gehlke (1997-99) as the only Gauchos ever to earn three all-regional selections.
