ICYMI: Here are the top five things that happened in the Big West last week….In Case You Missed It!

1. Davila Becomes CSUN’s All-Time Winning Coach

CSUN’s Terry Davila became the all-time winningest coach in Matadors’ men’s soccer history Saturday night when CSUN defeated Cal Poly 1-0 in Big West Conference action.  Saturday’s victory was the 193rd of Davila’s career, breaking the old mark of 192 that was set by his college coach, Marwan Ass’ad who served as the Matador mentor from 1983-98 (192-102-26). In his 20th season, Davila is 193-150-51 at the helm of the CSUN program.  Full Story

2. Titan Women Dominate UCR Highlander Invite, Men Take Second

Like head coach John Elders predicted, Cal State Fullerton men’s and women’s cross country had its best meet of the season on Saturday. The women’s squad had a dominating performance to win the 5,000-meter race as six Titans finished in the top 12 of the collegiate competitors. Samantha Huerta was the first collegiate finisher in the competition (third overall). The men also performed well as the team earned a runner-up finish and had two top-10 finishers. Full Story 

3. Big West Releases 2018-19 ESPN Men’s Basketball Schedule

Big West Conference Commissioner Dennis Farrell today announced that ESPN will televise a minimum of 17 men’s basketball games across its national cable networks during the 2018-19 season.   Five regular season Big West contests will appear on ESPN2 or ESPNU, utilizing a “Wild Card” format to determine pairings three weeks prior to each game.  Three ESPNU games will be played on January 31, February 21 and February 28.  ESPN2 or ESPNU will air February 9 and February 16 matchups.

4. No. 12 Cal Poly Women’s Volleyball Off To Its Best Start Since 1985

Freshman Meredith Phillips tied her career-high in kills, finishing with a team-high 12, hitting .750 and added two block assists while fellow freshman Avalon DeNecochea recorded her first double-double of the season with 36 assists and 15 digs as the Cal Poly volleyball team swept UC Santa Barbara Friday 3-0 (25-14, 25-22, 25-19) in front of over two-thousand fans at Mott Athletics Center. The win over the Gauchos (12-8, 4-4 BWC) is the 16th in a row for the No. 12 Mustangs (17-1, 7-0 BWC), extends their Big West winning streak to 24 matches in a row dating back to 2016 and improves their home winning streak to a program-record 18 matches.
