UC Santa Barbara, UC Riverside Take Unbeaten Marks Into Week Three

SHUTOUT CENTRAL FOR SANTA BARBARA
At a perfect 4-0, UC Santa Barbara has shutout opponents for 320 minutes so far in 2018, including a 3-0 win over Boise State at home and a 1-0 victory versus Brown, also at home. This is the second time in three years that the Gauchos opened its campaign with an unbeaten 4-0 mark. It is only the third time since 1993 when the squad went 13-6-0 to advance to the NCAA Tournament.
RIVERSIDE REMAINS PERFECT
After starting the season with a 2-2-2 mark a year ago, UC Riverside remains perfect at 3-0 after two weeks of action. The Highlanders haven’t dropped a regular season match since Sunday, Oct. 22 versus Long Beach State when the Beach defeated the Highlanders 3-0 at George Allen Field. UCR hit a sweet spot last season after winning four-straight games from Sept. 24 to Oct. 5 and look to do the same as it hosts Fresno State on Friday and Houston, Sunday. UCR and UCSB are the only squads who remain perfect for the Big West.
IN THE POLLS
For the second-straight week, Long Beach State is receiving votes in theUnited Soccer Coaches national weekly poll. The Beach defeated Northestern 2-1 last week before taking down San Diego State 1-0 to cap off the weekend.
Long Beach State faces top-25 competition with No. 16 Texas and No. 17 Auburn on deck. The Beach is 0-1 versus ranked opponents so far in 2018 after falling to No. 2 UCLA 1-0 in a hard fought battle.
UC DAVIS HAS PERFECT WEEKEND
UC Davis improved to 2-2 overall to claim back-to-back victories for the first time since winning three consecutive games from Sept. 28 to Oct. 12, last season. The Aggies return home for their next three matches.
MATADORS ARE GOLDEN
CSUN defeated Portland 2-1 in overtime, Sunday, on a golden goal from Amy Aquino in the 100th minute. The golden goal is the first for the Matadors since Aug. 27, 2017 when Marisa Favela notched a game-winner against Utah Valley. Going back to last season, five of the last matches have been decided in overtime for CSUN.
