With a doubleheader sweep to end the series, Cal State Fullerton took sole possession of first place in the Big West standings after defeating No. 18 Long Beach State twice, Saturday. The Titans took the series at home and head out on its fourth roadtrip of the year to face Hawai‘i for a three game series beginning, Friday.  CSF moved to 8-1 in league as Long Beach is just behind at 7-2 in the conference.  The Beach will travel north to take on UC Santa Barbara in a three-gameshowdown starting, Saturday.

With a, 11-2 win over the Titans last Friday, the Beach strung together 14-straight victories, a program record, before Fullerton snapped its streak the following afternoon.

UNDEFEATED LBSU AND CSF GO HEAD-TO-HEAD
Both at 6-0 in league, Long Beach State and Cal State Fullerton go head-to-head this weekend as No. 18 LBSU travels to Anderson Family Field. The winner of the series will remain on top of the Big West standings. The three game-series opens Friday night at 6pm.

AMONG THE NATION’S BEST
The Big West ranks in the top 10 in multiple categories this season. Long Beach State’s Cielo Meza is tied for the nation’s second-best mark with nine shutouts.  CSUN’s Savannah Horvath ranks 8th with 16 doubles while LBSU’s Nichole Fry ranks 13th with 15.  Meza also ranks 10th in the nation with 3.43 hits allowed per seven innings.  LBSU’s Taylor Rowland ranks 10th with 51 RBI in 2018.  She also comes in at 10th-best in the nation with 24 runs per game at 1.02.  CSUN’s Megan Stevens is fourth-best with five sacrifice flies.  Teammate Horvath is fifth-best with 115 total bases. 

ROWLAND INTO THE RECORD BOOKS
With four RBI over the weekend, LBSU’s Taylor Rowland cracks the Big West’s top 10 list in the category in a single season, the conference record stands at 59.  Cal State Fullerton’s Jenny Topping set the mark in 2001.

UC RIVERSIDE’S HAILEY DOLCINI TOSSES NO-NO
In a game that was tied until the bottom of the sixth inning, UC Riverside freshman Hailey Dolcini tossed her first career-hitter.  The freshman struck out two and walked just four for her 11th win.  After walking the lead of batter in the 4th, Dolcini retired the final 12 CSUN batters to close out the contest.

ESPN3 TO FEATURE BIG WEST SOFTBALL

Cal State Fullerton will host its second ESPN3 doubleheader on Saturday, April 28 against upstart UC Davis.  Softball coverage concludes on Saturday, May 12 with a single game at CSUN’s Matador Diamond against visiting Long Beach State.
