BIG WEST AT A GLANCE

LONG BEACH WINS 13-STRAIGHT
With a series sweep of UC Riverside last weekend, Long Beach State has mounted a 13-game win-streak to set a new program record. The Beach is also among the nation’s best in batting average (.319, 15th), earned run average (2.29, 41st) and fielding percentage (.973, 25th).  Additionally, LBSU is just seven doubles away from setting a new team season record as it is also on pace to set a program record in highest team batting average in LBSU history.

UNDEFEATED LBSU AND CSF GO HEAD-TO-HEAD
Both at 6-0 in league, Long Beach State and Cal State Fullerton go head-to-head this weekend as No. 18 LBSU travels to Anderson Family Field. The winner of the series will remain on top of the Big West standings. The three game-series opens Friday night at 6pm.

AMONG THE NATION’S BEST
The Big West ranks in the top 10 in multiple categories this season. Long Beach State’s Cielo Meza is tied for the nation’s-best mark with nine shutouts.  CSUN’s Savannah Horvath ranks 4th with 16 doubles while LBSU’s Nichole Fry ranks 6th with 15.  Horvath also cracks the top 10 with 108 total bases for the fifth-most in the NCAA.  Fry also ranks 10th in the antion with 57 hits while teammate Taylor Rowland ranks 9th with 47 RBI in 2018. Rowland needs just three more RBI to crack the Big West’s top 10 list in the category in a single season, the conference record stands at 59.  Cal State Fullerton’s Jenny Topping set the mark in 2001.

MEZA THROWS THIRD-CAREER NO-NO
Long Beach State’s Cielo Meza tossed her third-career no-hitter against Hawai‘i during conference play earlier this season.  In five innings of work, Meza struck out six while walking just one. The sophomore also tossed a no-o on March 3 when LBSU defeated No. 21 Minnesota, 1-0.  With her third in the category, as a sophomore, Meza has tied for the second-most no-hitters in Long Beach State history.  Meredith Cervenka leads the pack with four career no-nos; the Big West record stands at six, set by Carie Dever of FSU (1987-90).

Cal State Fullerton’s Taylor Dockins also tossed a no-hitter for the Titans on February 23 against San Diego.  The no-no was the 57th in Fullerton history, and the first since 2013.
