BIG WEST AT A GLANCE
CONFERENCE PLAY COMMENCES
The #BigWestQuest officially begins this holiday weekend. No. 18 Long Beach State (26-7) will host Hawai‘i (16-13) for a three-game series beginning Friday, including a doubleheader Saturday that will be broadcast at WatchESPN.com. The first pitch is slated for 1 pm on ESPN3. The Beach will be the third ranked opponent for UH this season, the ‘Bows are 0-2 against top-25 teams so far this year.
UC Riverside (18-11) will travel to Cal Poly (16-13) to kick off Big West action while UC Davis (18-11) battles CSUN (15-22). Preseason favorite and defending conference champion, Cal State Fullerton (15-19), that has won three of its last five, will host UC Santa Barbara (13-19). The Gauchos round out its non-conference schedule at San Diego, Wednesday, before kicking off league play.

LONG BEACH CLIMBS NATIONAL POLL
After winning its last seven contests, Long Beach State earned a No. 18 national ranking in the USA Today/NFCA poll as released, Monday. The Beach moved to 26-7 on the year after sweeping Loyola Marymount in a doubleheader, Sunday.
LBSU’S HERNANDEZ TIES BIG WEST RECORD
Freshman Naomi Hernandez recorded five hits in Long Beach State’s opener Sunday against LMU, to tie the Big West and LBSU record. The outfielder is the 15th all-time to accomplish the feat in conference history.
HORVATH CONTINUES HISTORIC CAMPAIGN
CSUN senior Savannah Horvath, this week’s Big West Player of the Week, continues to climb the Matador record book. Earlier this season, the infielder set the program record with the 51st double of her career. The mark is fifth-best in the Big West record book -- Pacific’s Barbara Moody (2000-2003) owns the record with 69 career doubles. The senior has 13 on the year, which ranks fourth-best in the NCAA.
LBSU’s Nichole Fry has also recorded 13 doubles this season.
ESPN3 TO FEATURE BIG WEST SOFTBALL
Initial ESPN3 coverage for softball begins Saturday, March 31 with a doubleheader at Anderson Family Field as preseason Big West favorite Cal State Fullerton welcomes in UC Santa Barbara.
Nationally ranked Long Beach State – No. 22 by USA Today/NFCA and No. 25 in the ESPN/USA Softball poll – hosts a Saturday, April 7 doubleheader against UC Riverside. The Beach own a conference-best 26-7 record. The Highlanders are second in win total with 23.
The Titans host their second ESPN3 doubleheader on Saturday, April 28 against upstart UC Davis, which is 18-11 this season. Softball coverage concludes on Saturday, May 12 with a single game at CSUN’s Matador Diamond against visiting Long Beach State.
