BIG WEST AT A GLANCE

BEACH BOASTS PERFECT 5-0 WEEK

No. 22 Long Beach State went a perfect 5-0 in its contests last weekend at the LMU Tournament, including victories over Texas Tech, Monmouth, Fairfield, Colgate and Loyola Marymount.  The Beach move to 24-7 on the year and have appeared in the UFCA/USA Today national poll for four-straight weeks.  LBSU remains the only squad in the Big West to crack the top-25 in 2018.

LONG BEACH AMONG NATION’S BEST
Long Beach State ranks among the nation’s best in hitting (3.15 -- 27th), scoring (5.84 -- 24th), slugging (.459 -- 42nd) and additionally win-loss-percentage (.774 -- 27th).  It also leads the Big West in runs (181), hits (276), doubles (53), RBI (163), hitting, slugging and on base percentage (.391).

FINAL WEEK OF NON-CONFERENCE PLAY
The Big West winds down its non-conference play before opening league action on March 30.  Six of the nine Big West squads will compete this week, while UC Davis and Hawai‘i resume action in its first Big West series next weekend.  The #BigWestQuest officially begins a week from Friday as Cal State Fullerton looks to defend its 2017 title.  ICYMI, CSF repeat last season as Big West champions.

DOLCINI DEALS FROM CIRCLE
UC Riverside freshman pitcher Hailey isn’t just making noise in conference after earning back-to-back Big West Pitcher of the Week awards, but on the national stage as her 1.04 ERA is 28th-best in the NCAA.  The first year has thrown four complete games for the Highlanders, the fourth-most in the Big West, and has dealt 64 strikeouts, the sixth-most in league.  Her 6.05 strikeouts per game are fifth-best in conference, in 74.0 innings of work.  The freshman is 9-2 on the year and has appeared in 16 appearances to her name so far this season.

FRY CONTINUES OFFENSIVE TEAR

Long Beach State junior, Nichole Fry continues to put up national number as her 47 hits this season are third-best in the NCAA.  Her 12 doubles rank fourth in 2018  and the junior has mounted a 13-game hit-streak, which ties the fifth-longest streak in LBSU history.  The junior is hitting .439 on the year and is reaching base over 50 percent of the time.

DAVIS SHUTS OUT BRONCOS

To finish its appearance at the Norcal Challenge, UC Davis earned a 7-0 shutout win over Santa Clara as three pitchers combined to keep the Broncos scoreless on the afternoon.  It is the fifth-shutout win for the Aggies this season.
