ICYMI: Here are the top five things that happened in the Big West last week….In Case You Missed It!


1. CSU Bakersfield, UC San Diego To Join Big West Conference

The Big West Conference Board of Directors today announced the addition of California State University, Bakersfield and the University of California San Diego as the 10th and 11th members of the Conference. CSU Bakersfield will become an official member of the conference on July 1, 2020, and will be immediately eligible in round-robin and single-site championship sports for Big West titles, awards and honors and continue its eligibility for NCAA automatic qualification in these sports.   Full Story



2. Big West Announces Volleyball Postseason Accolades

The 2017 Big West Conference Champion, Cal Poly, nabbed two of the top three awards, while UC Davis earned the final honor.  From Cal Poly, Taylor Nelson was named Big West Player of the Year and Big West Coach of the Year was awarded to Sam Crosson.  Grabbing the final award was UC Davis’ Mahalia White, who was named Big West Freshman of the Year. 3. Cal Poly Claims Lead After Fall Season In Commissioner’s Cup

Thanks to strong performances across the board, Cal Poly came away with the pole position after the fall season in the 2017-18 Big West Commissioner’s Cup race.  The Mustangs averaged 125.0 points over their five sports, recording championships in men’s cross country and women’s volleyball to go along with a second place showing in women’s cross country. Cal Poly continued its tradition of strong fall showings as it recorded a top three finish after the first season for the fourth time in the last five years. Full Story

4. Teare Shoots Final Round 66 To Qualify For LPGA Tour

Former Big West Golfer of the Year Kassidy Teare fired a final-round 66 to finish tied for 10th in Q School to earn a full LPGA Tour Card for 2018, becoming the first Long Beach State women’s golfer since 1981-82 to qualify for the highest women’s professional tour.  Over five rounds, Teare shot 5-under par, passing the bar of the Top 20 finish required to qualify for this year’s tour. Starting the day 1-over, Teare shot a professional career-low round of 66 to climb up the leaderboard into qualification.  Full Story


5. Nine Men's Soccer Players Earn All-Far West Region Honors

The United Soccer Coaches organization announced that nine Big West representatives were selected to the All-Far West Region Team, including a trio of players on the second team.  Full Story

Women's Soccer Places Nine On All-Region Teams

A total of 9 Big West players were honored on the 2017 United Soccer Coaches Women’s Division I All-West Region Team for their standout performances this season as announced, Tuesday. Full Story
