UC Irvine Sweeps October Golfers of the Month

The two Big West October Golfers of the Month hailed from UC Irvine.

Kim Finishes As Runner-Up At Bill Cullum Invitational

UC Irvine senior David Kim (Fullerton, Calif./Eastside Christian HS) had two top-20 finishes, including a runner-up showing at the Bill Cullum Invitational, and earned Big West Men’s Golfer of the Month accolades for October.

Kim played in three tournaments during the month and finished no worse than 30th in any of them.  His best round came at the Nick Watney Invitational.  Kim fired an opening round 67, helped along by five birdies as he was in second place after 18 holes.  He posted rounds of 75 and 81 to conclude the tournament at 10-over 223.

He recorded three straight under-par rounds the Bill Cullum Invitational.  Kim fired a 7-under 209 on the 6,849-yard Wood Ranch Golf Club layout, posting rounds of 71, 70 and 68.  The final round 68 moved him up from fifth place into runner-up status.

Kim completed the month at the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational as he tied for 18th place in the field of 112 golfers.  His best round was a 68 – his third sub-70 round of the month – as he carded a 3-under 213 for the tournament.  Kim had an eagle on the 16th hole, and totaled 11 birdies over the 54 holes.

Yeo Takes Home Medalist Honors at Chip-N Club Invitational

UC Irvine junior Janet Yeo (Los Angeles, Calif./Notre Dame HS) earned Big West Women’s Golfer of the Month honors for October after winning the school’s first individual title in eight years.

Yeo was co-medalist at the Chip-N Club Invitational at the Wilderness Ridge Golf Course in Nebraska.  She matched Nebraska’s Audrey Judd for the title with a three-round total of 2-over 218.  Yeo posted rounds of 73, 71 and 74 to become the first Anteater medalist since Hillary Packard at the Lady Aztec Invitational on Feb. 17, 2009.  Yeo led the tournament field with 14 birdies.

It was her first career individual title as she helped UCI to a third-place finish in the eight-team field.

Yeo helped UCI place second among 14 teams at the Pat Lesser-Harbottle Invitational in Tacoma, Wash.  On the 6,086-yard, par-72 Tacoma Country and Golf Club track, Yeo tied for 16th overall with rounds of 78-76 and 77.

She concluded the month with a 21st-place tie in the UC Irvine Invitational.  Her best round was 73 as she ended up shooting 9-over 225. 

At the end of the fall schedule, Yeo leads the Anteaters with a 74.75 scoring average.
