Sydney Gilbert and Jovani McCaskill helped CSUN to an unbeaten week.
McCaskill Breaks School Career Shutout Record
Gilbert’s First Career Goal A Game-Winner
CSUN freshman Sydney Gilbert (Santee, Calif./West Hills HS) made her first career goal a big one as she captured her first Big West Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week honor.
In a battle for first place with UC Irvine, Gilbert’s goal in the 33rd minute was the only one of the match in the 1-0 victory. Both teams came into the contest tied atop the conference with 13 points.
Gilbert took a throw in from Destinney Duron that traveled into a crowd inside the box. The midfielder got control of the ball and placed a shot past the UCI goalkeeper.
She finished with two shots for the week.

Back-to-back clean sheets gave CSUN goalkeeper Jovani McCaskill (San Diego, Calif./Eastlake HS) the school’s career shutout record and her fourth Big West Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week honor.
The senior made a combined six saves to help the Matadors upend UC Irvine (1-0) and battle UC Davis to a scoreless draw, giving her side 14 points and sole possession of first place in the Big West.
McCaskill made three of her four saves against the Anteaters in the second half to preserve the 1-0 win. That was her 27th career shutout, tying her with current assistant coach Cynthia Rosas (2009-12) for the record.
Two more saves against the Aggies gave McCaskill her 28th career shutout and lone possession of the school record. It was her seventh clean sheet of the season.
