ICYMI: Here are the top five things that happened in the Big West last week….In Case You Missed It!


1. UC Riverside Women’s Soccer Improves To 3-0 In Conference Play

The UC Riverside Women’s Soccer Team (6-7-2, 3-0-0) won its fourth straight match, and third consecutive Big West match with a 1-0 shutout of visiting Cal State Fullerton (8-3-2, 1-1-0) Thursday evening.  The Highlanders are undefeated through three conference matches for just the second time in program history. The 2005 squad won its first four matches, and finished Big West play with a 4-0-3 mark en route to its first-ever NCAA appearance. Full Story


2. No. 24 Mustangs Maintain Perfect Conference Record After Trip To Hawai’i
In a battle of the undefeated last week, Hawai’i took the first two sets, 25-16 and 25-22,  before Cal Poly came storming back to claim the final three sets (25-15, 25-22, 15-9) to down the Rainbow Wahine in Honolulu to maintain its perfect conference mark (6-0).  Hawai’i dropped to 5-1 with the loss.  Full Story



3. Former ‘Eater Fells Shines For Cardinals
Former UC Irvine basketball player Darren Fells continues to earn his keep with the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals.

4. UC Riverside Men’s Golf Alum Steele Goes Back-To-Back At Safeway Open
Conditions were a far cry from the soggy course seen during last year’s final round, but the result was the same with former UC Riverside men’s golfer Brendan Steele held off several contenders down the stretch to defend his title at the Safeway Open.  Full Story


5. Big West Alums in the Major League Baseball Postseason
Seven former Big West Conference baseball players are showcasing their skills in the Major League Baseball postseason.  Three of the seven players are from Cal State Fullerton, two come from Long Beach State and the other two are from UC Davis and UC Riverside.  Worth noting: Justin Turner (CSF) tied Dodgers postseason record for RBI in a game with five during the NLDS game one on October 6.
