BIG WEST AT A GLANCE

AMANDA BALL CONTINUES TEAR
UC Santa Barbara’s Amanda Ball found the back of the net again, twice last weekend as the Gauchos went 0-0-2 to bring her score total to eight in 2017. The senior has netted eight of the Gauchos’ 11 goals this season. Her eight scores tie for the 4th-most in the nation. She is also in the top 25 nationally with three game-winning goals,  which ties for 10th-best in the country. The senior’s 16 points tie for 16th-best in DI women’s socer while her 0.89 goals per game average in 8th-best in the country.

Ball looks to be on track to break into the Big West record book for goals scored in a single season. The senior would need seven more to crack the top 10; the record belongs to fellow Gaucho Krystal Sandza who set the mark in 2002 with 25 scores on the year. Most recently, Cal State Fullerton’s Rebecca Wilson recorded 19 goals during the 2015 campaign for 4th-best all-time.

Three more game-winning goals this season, and Ball would write her name in the category among the all-time figures for game-winners in a single season. The record, set by Rebecca Wilson, is 10 GWG.

THREE TEAMS RECORD PERFECT WEEKEND
Cal Poly, Long Beach State and Hawai‘i went 2-0 last weekend. For the Mustangs, it was the first time CP won back-to-back matches this season, while it was the second time for both LBSU and UH.  All three teams take a two-game win-streak into the final week of non conference play.

NON-CONFERENCE PLAY COMES TO A CLOSE
Big West women’s soccer prepares for its final week of non-conference play before the #BigWestQuest officially begins on Thursday, Sept. 28.  Cal State Fullerton will play out its preseason schedule at home as the Titans entertain San Diego and Grand Canyon.  So far the Big West as a league is 2-0 over San Diego and 1-0-1 versus GCU.  Long Beach State will break for a week before it resumes play with Hawai‘i at George Allen Field on Sunday, Oct. 1.

HOMERS
Undefeated at home, Cal Poly looks to bolster its 2-0 record at Spanos G. Stadium with another two wins as the Mustangs host Denver and Santa Clara. CP continues its six-game homestand this weekend before opening conference play with UC Irvine and UC Riverside.  The Mustangs were 24-14-6 at home over the last five years heading into the 2017 season.

CSUN HOME TO TOURNAMENT IN 2017

CSUN will host the 2017 Big West Women’s Soccer Tournament from November 2-5 at Matador Soccer Field.  Consistent with previous years, the four teams with the best marks in league at the close of the regular season will earn berths to the conference tournament.
