Hoover, Mata Help Teams To Victories
Kaycee Hoover netted two game-winning goals and Alexis Mata filed away her first career shutout as this week’s recipients of the women’s soccer awards.
Hoover Slots Home Two Game-Winners
Cal State Fullerton senior Kaycee Hoover (Brea, Calif./Troy HS) notched a pair of game-winning goals to earn her first career Big West Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week award.
The Titans improved to 5-1-2 on the season as Hoover’s two goals helped them upend Iowa State (2-1) and Utah Valley (3-0).
Hoover scored off of a cross in the 48th minute to give the Titans a 2-0 lead on the Cyclones, an important insurance goal that turned out to be the game-winner.
The midfielder started a flurry of three goals in a 10-minute span of the first half against the Wolverines. Samantha Koemans set up Hoover’s goal at the 28:52 mark.
Hoover scored on her only two shot attempts for the week, and now has three goals for her career.

Mata Records First Career Shutout
Hawai‘i junior Alexis Mata (Woodland, Calif./Pioneer HS) collected her first career shutout in a road win, capturing Big West Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Mata made eight saves in a 2-0 win against Idaho State, helping the Rainbow Wahine snap a four-match skid and a four-game scoreless streak.
The netminder faced 20 shots and stopped all eight that were on frame. She held off Idaho State in a scoreless time until Sonest Furtado broke through at the 76:24 mark. Seven of Mata’s eight saves came while the game was scoreless.
Mata’s 32 saves on the season are tied for second in the Big West and tied for No. 35 nationally.
